Additional +20 hp for all new M3 V8 supercharger systems
Despite BMW finishing production of the BMW M3 E9X with its legendary 4.0l V8 high-revving engine in 2013, the demand for performance increases has been unabated. In order to accommodate, G-POWER has technically upgraded its range of supercharger systems. By doing so, the new systems with the increased performance of +20 hp have been labeled as the “TU†version (technical update) compared to previous versions. Prices of the new M3 V8 TU systems have not been increased, however.
All existing customers who already own a G-POWER M3 V8 supercharger system will not be left out though. For only 1.669 € excl. VAT, they can also upgrade their used supercharger system and enjoy the additional 20 hp as well. As a result, the power of the most popular supercharger system, the SK II CS, is now lifted from 610 hp to 630 hp.
The basis for this additional power output of the M3 V8 supercharger systems is a newly-developed G-POWER software for the electronic control unit. What may sound like a simple software update at first, is actually a substantially new product development. Take into account the scope of development effort necessary for originally charged engines – keyword chiptuning – and it becomes clear that the adaptation of the ECU from a naturally-aspirated engine to the parameters of supercharging takes a critical amount of attention: several thousand engine mappings need to be sighted, mostly modified and finally checked, which results in testing, testing, and more testing. No wonder the total development time for the new G-POWER software has taken close to 12 months, including countless test kilometers on race tracks, the Autobahn and of course everyday traffic. Therefore, the development effort of the electronics is in no way inferior to the hardware of the G-POWER supercharger systems.
When the hard- and software of the G-POWER supercharger system is finally combined with the high-revving BMW V8 an engine is created that is nothing short of stunning. The technology developed by G-POWER for its supercharger systems retains the unique performance characteristics of the M power unit. Compared with the series-production version, the addition of a G-POWER supercharger system delivers further improved response to even the tiniest movement of the gas pedal, plus absolutely no restrictions in its aggressive high revving under full load and progressive power delivery right up to the rev limiter. In addition to these features, the increased output of the V8 engine delivered by the G-POWER supercharger system also comes with a significant plus in mid-range torque.
As a result the standard power output of the BMW M3 E9X of 420 hp (309 kW)/ 400 Nm is pushed – e.g. in combination with the SK II CS TU supercharger system – to awesome 630 hp (463 kW)/ 590 Nm torque. Of course the performance figures benefit from the G-POWER modifications as well: the standard sprint from 0-200 km/h is completed in 10.5s. Top speed is more than 330 km/h
As already mentioned the price for the technically reworked G-POWER supercharger system stays untouched. The SK II CS TU version for example is 13.500,00 Euro excl. VAT plus the necessary Titanium exhaust system for 4.651,54 Euro excl. VAT. The customers that already own a G-POWER M3 V8 supercharger system can upgrade to the „TU“ version for just 1-668,00 Euro excl. VAT.
