KW DDC ECU coilovers for the new BMW 3-series station wagon

The new BMW 3-series station wagon is a lifestyle automobile at its best: Beautiful lines, more space and a BMW typical driving performance is what the new 3-series station wagon (F31) brings with it. Drivers who have not chosen the optional adaptive series suspension for their 3-series, will find an alternative with significant added value with the electronic KW DDC ECU coilovers. It connects for the first time an adaptive damper control with wireless WiFi control via smartphone. The KW dampers can be adjusted separately at the front and rear axle easy by iPhone App, for example to consider loads in the trunk. In addition, the three KW DDC modes “Comfort”, “Sport” and “Sport+” are available to select, which enable the 3-series station wagon an ideal performance on all kind of roads. Within the TÃœV tested adjustment range, the suspension kit made of stainless steel allows a continuous lowering of up to 65 mm. The KW DDC ECU coilover kit made of stainless steel is also available without WiFi control.

For every demand, KW has the right suspension in program, also for BMW 3-series drivers. From now on, the active regulatory KW DDC ECU coilover kit is available for the station wagon. It gives touring drivers the opportunity to upgrade their car with an adaptive suspension including the required suspension control and even to control the dampers via smartphone App. During development of adaptive KW DDC ECU coilover kits, the “Comfort”-mode was is focus and it convince with a comfort-oriented setup. In addition, the KW DDC control module reads the vehicle data of the BMW 3-series when driving and it independently adjusts the damping characteristics to the driving speed. Via the supplied KW DDC button, the driver can switch between the modes “Comfort”, “Sport” and “Sport+”: In mode “Sport” the dampers work agile, while in “Sport+” mode the sporty damping characteristic is in the foreground. In the case of a voltage drop, the KW DDC ECU coilover kit automatically switches to a mechanical fail-safe mode, then a proportional valve switches immediately to a neutral middle position and the dampers continue to work in the KW basic setup.

Adaptive suspension control meets iPhone

“The free KW DDC App allows to optionally adjust the dampers of the KW DDC ECU coilover kit via iPhone,” explained Johannes Wacker, Product Manager at KW automotive. “If for example a family vacation trip is planned, the driver can adjust the KW suspension comfortably to the loading condition.” The continuous damper setup allows either from maximum “Comfort” identifier with a very soft damping (displayed in the App as 0%) up to Sport+ damper setup (displayed in the App as 100%), to individually adjust the dampers independently of front and rear axle. With the intuitive menu navigation in the KW App, up to five individual damper settings can be configured within the KW-safety requirements for the BMW 3-series station wagon and it can afterwards be shared by Email with friends. The communication between suspension control unit and smartphone occurs via a secured WiFi connection. For the wireless connection between KW DDC ECU coilover control unit and iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, the optional KW W-LAN module is required.

Continuous lowering

When installing the KW DDC ECU coilovers, the original strut will be replaced by a completely assembled KW coilover strut in “inox-line” stainless steel finish. Via the KW trapezoid thread it allows a continuous lowering within the German TÃœV-tested adjustment range of 40 to 60 mm at the front axle. At the drive axle, an individual lowering of 30 – 55 mm is possible via the KW rear axle height adjustment. The KW DDC ECU coilovers come with a TÃœV certificate for the new BMW 3-series station wagon and the kit is available either with or without the optional wireless module.
